6 Trendy Ways To Use Florals In Your Home

I don’t think I ever remember a time when at least some kind of floral wasn’t in vogue. Yes, certain styles and patterns have come and gone over the years and whilst we all remember our grandmother’s chintz sofa with a winsome smile or retract in embarrassment at the dresses we may have worn as kids, florals have come a long way in nearly every application you can think of.

And with Spring here and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show signifying the start of summer blooms, you may want to consider bringing in some fresh new florals into your home as well. This year florals can be big and bold, naturalistic, stylised or inspired by watercolours or tradition – there’s really something for everyone!

A simple floral cushion may be all that’s needed to bring a little bit of spring to a bedroom or living room. A single patterned fabric like the one shown above is allowed to shine against bright white bedlinen and a few complimentary cushions. Keeping the pattern to just one area gives it a much more contemporary vibe and allows you to easily swap it out with the change in seasons.

Give your home a bit of a vintage vibe with thrift shop finds. Consider a wall of brightly coloured floral artwork in cross-stitch, oils or watercolours and display them together in a gallery wall.

This dining room creates a fresh and fun vibe with a bold oversized floral print that captures your attention. If you are using wallpapers, consider those floral prints that are oversized for a more contemporary take on what your grandmother may have loved all those years ago. There’s a lot of energy created in this look so be sure to use it in a space like a dining room or an office rather than in a space that’s just for relaxing.

If you love the look of deeper colours in your interiors, you might want to consider a wallpaper that uses a much darker background. Here, the blooms are overblown but naturalistic, inspired by still life paintings that would sit equally well in a more traditional space as it would in a contemporary one.

Wall murals

With the advancement in digital technology, nearly any image can be blown up to maximum size as a wall mural. I adore this particular water coloured inspired mural as it’s soft and doesn’t overwhelm the space but still creates an eye-catching feature in the room. Pull other pastel colours from the mural into the space for a calm and serene setting.

floral bedding

For a bold bedroom look this spring and summer, consider floral print bedlinen that brightens and inspires. Another water-colour inspired print with bright hues can be the jumping off point for a whole new look. Consider using a bolder colour on the walls as well to tie the whole space together.

A smaller piece of furniture in a floral print can be just the thing to add a bit of pattern or contrast to a room setting. Here, a small side table is given a makeover with floral sticky back plastic, creating a unique piece that’s sure to be a conversation starter. The pattern is subtle but effective and can be applied to any flat surface.

Of course, you can also purchase pieces with a print as seen above but if you have a larger piece such as a console table with straight edges, this can also be DIY’d. Wrap each side in fabric cut to size and apply using a fabric glue then coat with pva to give it additional strength for a truly unsual piece.

So as you can see, there are plenty of ways to add florals to your decor that are fun as well as feeling fresh and different. Will you be adding any florals to your interiors this spring and summer? Let us know @OFLOakFurniture!
