What’s the difference between a footstool and an ottoman?

Footstools are designed primarily for resting your feet, whereas an ottoman is typically larger, upholstered, and serves multiple purposes – from a footrest to extra seating, or even storage.

Ottomans are usually a bedroom staple rather than used as living room furniture, whereas footstools can be used in either room.

What’s the difference between a footstool and a pouffe?

The main difference between footstools and pouffes is in their shape and appearance. Footstools tend to have wooden legs and can be taller than pouffes.

Pouffes are lower to the ground than footstools, often shaped more like a cube or a sphere.

How high should a footstool be?

Footstools should be slightly lower than your sofa, around 30-45cm in height. However, if you plan to use a footstool as a coffee table, or next to your bed, then it may need to be taller than this.
