As we approach the end of the year, it\u2019s time to get ready for what 2022 has in store for the world of interior design. In 2021 we saw a shift towards the natural; embracing greens, earthy colours, woven materials, dried grass and cottagecore.<\/p>\n

A love for all things retro<\/h2>\n

We have already seen a shift towards retro, 70s styling, particularly with the rise of maximalism<\/a> in recent years. In 2022, it\u2019ll be all about embracing 70s colours, fabrics and silhouettes. Whether you\u2019re a lover of minimalist or maximalist styling, you\u2019ll be looking to adapt retro elements to your scheme.<\/p>\n

Add in pops of sunflower yellows, avocado greens and cerulean to your decor, plaster the walls with geometric or floral patterns, and get lost in texture with velvet, rattan and fringe. And don\u2019t forget the mid-century modern furniture pieces!<\/p>\n

A hunger for multifunctional spaces<\/h2>\n

In 2020 and 2021 we\u2019ve seen a need to transform our homes into multifunctional spaces<\/a>, creating offices, home gyms, and more. This isn\u2019t set to change any time soon. We\u2019re bringing back open plan living in 2022, but with a focus on creating areas in your existing space. Whether that be to house a desk<\/a>, or simply zoning off the dining space in an open plan living room or kitchen, look into partitioning to create privacy in an otherwise open space.<\/p>\n

Going green<\/h2>\n

The beautifully restorative colour of nature, it\u2019s unsurprising that green always takes its place at the top of the interior design trends of the year. Using multiple shades of green will become popular this year, as well as indoor jungle living with lots of houseplants. The trend doesn\u2019t stop here, with huge emphasis on using organic materials and sustainability in your decor.<\/p>\n

Embracing new minimalism<\/h2>\n

In 2022, interior trends are leaning towards the restorative, wellbeing characteristics of design. Minimalism plays a huge part in this, creating zen spaces, free of clutter and unnecessary pieces. Despite the popularity of the bright and bold colourful home trend, 2022 welcomes basic colours back into the home. The desire for cosiness still remains in 2022, taking new form in the love of rounded shapes. Create softness in an otherwise minimalist design with curved edges in your furnishings and accessories. Creating this contrast adds depth and texture to your home, with rounded silhouettes inviting relaxation and comfort, and clean lines promoting clarity and release.<\/p>\n
