The most important element to me has to be the dining table and I set mine up well in advance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Samantha&#8217;s Christmas dining set up<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year I have a new dining set \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/furniture\/st-ives-natural-oak-and-light-grey-painted-5ft-extending-dining-table\/1006988.html\">St. Ives dining table<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/furniture\/upholstered-curve-back-plain-truffle-fabric-chair-with-solid-oak-legs\/1008427.html\">Curve Back chairs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/furniture\/st-ives-natural-oak-and-light-grey-painted-large-dresser\/1002820.html\">St. Ives dresser<\/a> from Oak Furnitureland and I have turned the dining room into our very own winter wonderland. The dining table extends to comfortably seat six, which is perfect for hosting my family and friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20082\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/unnamed-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3024\" height=\"4032\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After seeing how beautiful the tone of grey is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/range\/st-ives-grey-painted\/\">St. Ives range<\/a> I knew I wanted to go with a grey and white theme. I have chosen complementing baubles in these colours. I also purchased some vintage skis and ice skating boots to hang on the wall to give it an extra log cabin feel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20096\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mrs_roobottom_home-image-1575366385630.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the table I have chosen a grey chequered table cloth for a modern take on traditional Christmas design, this is also a change from every day so gives it a sense of occasion. I have also anchored the dining table with a rug, which also makes the room seem more cosy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mrs_roobottom_home-image-1575366373611.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have created the centrepiece using a cake stand and baubles as the main focal point and frosted ivy, tulle and fairy lights along the table top. I adore fairy lights at Christmas as there is something magical seeing them twinkle away.\u00a0 To add height, I have chosen two candelabras at either end of the table which give off a lovely glow. I have chosen non scented candles for the table to so as not to interfere with the food.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have a table present tradition and this year I have had personalised baubles made, which I have wrapped round the napkins to also use as place settings. When Christmas dinner has finished these will be added to our tree and we can remember this Christmas year on year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20089\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mrs_roobottom_home-image-1575366431596.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the dresser I have added a large champagne bucket which will be filled on the big day. Christmas baubles have also been added to tie the look together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Top tips for creating the perfect entertaining space:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think where each guest will sit beforehand (I like to be seated closest to the kitchen for instance) and ensure that they have enough space and that seating is comfortable.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fully embrace your room theme with matching table decor. It will all tie together for a fabulously festive look.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Layer your lighting with candles, fairy lights and lamps for a cosy vibe.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Favourite recipes that I love to make at Christmas:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditionally we have a Buck&#8217;s Fizz on Christmas morning, which is an alcoholic cocktail made of two parts champagne to one part fresh orange juice. I also make a non-alcoholic version using lemonade instead of champagne. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>I love to make braised red cabbage to with our turkey dinner. It is so easy to make and freezes really well. You will need:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Red cabbage (1kg)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">White onion (450g) diced<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooking apples (450g), peeled, cored and cubed\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 clove of garlic crushed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teaspoon of mixed spice<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 tablespoons of brown sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 tablespoons of water<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Quarter the cabbage, remove the stalk in the middle and shred. In a saucepan layer the cabbage, onions and apple. Sprinkle the garlic, spices and sugar on top then add the water. I then put the lid on the pan and cook on a low heat for 2 \u00bd hours stirring every so often.
