If your bedroom is feeling a bit bland or you’ve fallen out of love with it, there are plenty of things you can do to bring it back to life! In just 48 hours, you can have a whole new look without having to redecorate it from top to bottom. So, whether you are willing to pick up a paint brush, shake up your styling or if you are ready to replace your tired bedding, check out our top tips for transforming your favourite sanctuary in a single weekend!
Paint the Walls
The simplest option for completely changing the whole look and feel of a room is always going to be paint! Consider going from a light colour to a dark or neutral shade to a bold hue! Always test paint first by painting a large piece of white card leaving a 1” border around it. Tape it up to the walls and then move the card around the room to see how the colour changes depending upon the light that hits it.
Change Your Flooring
Changing out old, threadbare or stained carpeting will instantly update a room. Choose a luxe high-quality wool carpet, replace cheap laminate with real wood or give your tired floorboards a couple coats of crisp white paint for an instant upgrade.
Update Your Bedding
There’s a reason that 5 -star hotels have the most wonderful bedding – what you use against your skin makes a difference to the quality of your sleep. Cheap scratchy linens are a false economy and you’ll end up replacing them far too often. Invest in beautiful new bedding with a high thread-count or swap over to linen for a softness and quality you just can’t beat.
Shake Up Your Art
Consider replacing a gallery wall you’ve fallen out of love with and exchanging it for one large-and-in-charge piece that captures your attention. Larger pieces are in fashion now but if you need a budget option, why not try your hand at an abstract on an inexpensive canvas from a hobby shop? You may discover a hidden talent!
Swap Your Light Fixture
Your lighting can really make or break a room so if you have been living with boring light fittings or simple spotlights in your bedroom, get an electrician in to exchange it for something that gives the space wow-factor. This is an area where you can go a little larger than normal for an instant show stopper.
Add a Rug
Adding colour, texture or pattern to the floor is another way to create a new look with just a simple one-step process. Rugs can delineate spaces in an open-plan area or simply provide a comfy landing pad for tired feet. Remember to choose the correct size. In the bedroom, consider one that sits about ¾ of the way under the bed and extends another ¼ from the front of the footboard. Bigger is almost always better here.
Bring in Some Plants
And finally, no room is complete without the inclusion of some life. Houseplants are back in a very big way to consider bringing in a few pots to dot along windowsills, on surfaces or create a ‘plant gang’ in a sunny corner of the room.
