Creative Advent Calendars

The time is almost upon us. Very soon it will be time to dust of the Advent Calendar and start the countdown to Christmas Day. If you have children, you may be used to buying a chocolate advent calendar from the Supermarket but there are lots of ways you can be more creative with your advent calendar this year. Creating something stylish and individual is a lovely way to add some Christmas cheer to your home too.

In this post, I wanted to share some of my favourites that I’ve recently discovered.

#1 Peg and Card Advent Calendar

This very simple, yet very effective advent display is the perfect way to countdown to Christmas. Sold by Posh Totty on Not On The High Street, it consists of ribbon, pegs and numbered envelopes, allowing you to fill them with little treats, jokes or messages. It would be really simple to create this yourself if you were quite crafty; ideal for involving the children too.

#2 DIY Penguin and Igloo Advent

This wonderfully cute DIY Advent Calendar is a great one for the children. Download the printables from Etsy, and create your own Penguins, Igloo and Trees. Once you’re done, fill the penguins with treats or sweets and create your very own icy scene.

#3 Advent Calendar Wall Sticker

I’m a big fan of Christmas wall stickers, and so when I saw this wall sticker advent calendar, I knew I wanted to include it in the roundup. Sold by Name Art on NOTHS, they suggest parking a little car outside the relevant house, containing a little treat for yourself or the children. A lovely way to mark the countdown to the big day.

#4 Scandi Advent House

You can find these Advent Calendar houses in lots of different styles, and they make a great piece to keep bringing out each year. You might even find you hand it down your family through the generations. This particular Scandi style house is from Handpicked Collection and even lights up! Fill the little drawers with sweets or chocolates, and let your family enjoy their advent discoveries.

#5 Bake it Yourself Advent Calendar

Do you love to bake? If so, you’ll love this fabulous bake it yourself advent calendar kit available from NOTHS. The kit comes complete with recipe booklet, cookies cutters, icing, pegs, twine and craft bags (plus a few extras) to enable you to create and design your very own advent cookies. Decorate them exactly how you wish and hang from a tree, or pack in the bags and store in a tin. Such an unusual, and exciting way to countdown to Christmas.

I do hope you’re inspired by these advent calendars. How do you decorate your home with Advent Calendars?
