I know. I just used the C word. But with only 6 weeks to go until Christmas, it’s time to start thinking about what we have to do to our home to prepare for the celebrations.
If you have family and friends visiting for lunch, an overnight stay, for parties or just afternoon tea, it’s time to think about you need to do to be ready. For families, it’s always a great idea to think about decluttering at home too, ready for the new toys that Father Christmas will bring..
So, I’ve put together a few of my top tips for preparing your home for the Christmas season this year.
Tip #1: Time to Declutter
I know I say this a lot, but it’s never more crucial than at this time of the year. As well as receiving gifts, you’ll want to streamline your home as much as possible to make way for the decorations. Take time to evaluate what you can part with, and take it to the charity shop or recycle it.
Tip #2 Kids Books and Toys
Encourage your children to sort through their books and toys at this time of year, and recycle or send to charity, those that they don’t need. Clearing the shelves and parting with their belongings is a great lesson to learn and often a new experience for them to deal with, and perfect for making way for some replacements from Santa.
Tip #3 Streamline your Decorations
Revisit your Christmas decorations and throw away any broken ornaments or lights. Perhaps you’re thinking of a new theme for your decorations this year, so look at what you don’t need anymore, and streamline. It’s a great time of year to look for a new tree, or some new ornaments, with a huge variety available right now.
Tip #4 Pre-Order your Furniture
If you like to revamp a room, or update a key living area before Christmas, you’ll need to check out the last ordering dates of pieces like sofas or new dining furniture. Updating features such as this takes a little bit of planning to ensure you don’t miss out on getting into the home before the festivities begin.
Tip #5 Christmas Table
Maybe you like to leave this until the last minute, but planning how your Christmas table is going to look will save you lots of hassle and stress nearer the time. If you’re entertaining lots of different guests at different times throughout the season, it’s well worth making a plan for each occasion and deciding on how you’re going to dress your table each time. Once you’ve done this, it’s easy to draw up a shopping list of the extra pieces you’re going to need for each event.
