Trend Watch: Tropical Glam

With warmer weather here and the feel of sunshine on our faces (well, when the sun decides to make an appearance), we get an idea of what it must be like to live in a warmer climate. Our memories of sandy beaches, cocktails by the pool and swaying palms of holidays past may come to mind and we bask in the delights of far away shores. But what if I told you that you can enjoy that feeling all year long, even here in the rainy UK? Of course, we all have to earn a living and take care of our responsibilities day-to-day so it’s obviously not possible to be on holiday all the time (sorry about that) but capturing the essence of tropical living is surprisingly easy to bring to our homes, thanks to the latest trend of tropical glam.

If you thought of bold leaf motifs, pineapples, leafy house plants and gold finishes, you’re on the right track. Here are just a few ideas for creating that sunshine feeling no matter where you live.

tropical wallpaper chest of drawers

In my own home, I adore a great wallpaper and I used off-cuts of this tropical inspired print from Sian Zeng to give a chest of drawers a bit of a revamp. Pulling a few more plants into the area plus a pineapple sconce and gold finishes gives my living room a year-round tropical vibe.

Tropical look dining room with large plants

This beautiful dining room incorporates a few tropical touches. Cool floor tiles, a live edge wood table and large plants along with a subtle olive colour on the walls inspires the look of an up-market beach front property. Consider combining warmer hues like yellows and oranges with greens for a look that brings in that jungle feeling.

For a more Scandi-inspired twist on the tropics (yes, it can be done!) consider a few simple leafy palm prints to warm up a monochrome look. Pull in some gold finishes as well as they have here in the light fixture along with a hint of white marble for Palm Springs style without having to book a ticket to California.

Consider bringing that relaxing tropical vibe into your bathroom with large leafy plants as well as smaller succulents. Plants thrive in a bathroom’s natural humidity and create a wonderful tropical atmosphere perfect for relaxation and pampering. Adding a few natural accents in wood and bold graphic prints in black and white will polish off this look and allow you to drift away to a tropical paradise – if only in your mind!

tropical style home office

Even your home office can get some tropical glam! There are some beautiful tropical-inspired wallpapers on the market these days that can liven up any desk area. Go for large-and-in-charge prints in botanical styles. To keep things light and airy, look for perspex and clear acrylic furniture that keep the room bright and fresh.

tropical style bar cart

And finally, few tropical glam looks are really complete without the inclusion of a pool-party ready bar cart. Choose a trolley with simple lines and gold finishes and finish it off with pineapple style accessories and artwork that reflects a luxury look. You may not have a pool but you can bring in that relaxed holiday vibe no matter where you live.
