How to Create a Stylish Man Cave for Father’s Day

Like most people, when we first moved into our home, we went to work making our own mark on the house by redecorating. Of course, my other half’s approval was requested on any major changes I wanted to make but he was fairly relaxed about letting me decorate the way I wanted to. However, something became immediately clear. Most of the areas of the house reflected my tastes more than his. Whoops.

We soon realised that he needed his own space to get away – a spot he can relax to watch the football matches, the latest superhero film or immerse himself in his Playstation. And so, we decided that the cellar was going to be HIS personal spot in the home – his ‘man cave’. While it’s now fully watertight and habitable, he’s recently asked for my help in finishing off the space. Always up for a challenge, work is underway to give it a stylish update.

How difficult is it to create a ‘man cave’ with style? Not that difficult. If the man in your life needs a place to call his own or you want to adapt your own living room or snug to create a man cave this Father’s Day, there are a few things you might want to consider for maximum style and comfort.

Comfort is Key

Your first port of call for relaxed style is going to be your seating. You’ll want deep seats that comfort and cradle and are easy to sprawl out on. Corner sofas are the ultimate luxury for curling up on movie night and make the most of the space you have.

For those with a more laid-back approach, consider an electric recliner like our Finley range which uses a high quality motor to sink Dad into the ultimate relaxation position. Classic leather upholstery will continue to look great for many years to come and the luxury material only gets softer and better with age – much like Dad himself!

Tasteful Tech Storage

Of course, every self-respecting man cave will include a big screen so team it with a stylish TV cabinet, perfect for hiding away games, consoles and DVDs. Tuck the leads and cables through purpose-built holes at the back of the unit and create a stylish spot for viewing without the mess.

If Dad’s collection of vintage CDs and DVDs is taking over the living room, consider a purpose-built unit to store these away conveniently. A cabinet unit can just as easily hold snacks and the top can be used as a custom bar area to display his favourite tipple.

Double-Duty Convenience

Hydration and refreshment are key for every armchair athlete so you’ll want to make sure there’s a convenient spot to set down drinks and snacks. A gorgeous well-built coffee table will add style to the space as well as give some additional storage solutions. Hide away any remote controls in the handy drawers and utilise the shelves to store his favourite books or magazines.

The Finishing Touches

And finally, you want to make sure his personality is carried through the space. Reflect his interests via the finishing touches with books on topics he loves to talk about displayed on the coffee table, or items on bookshelves reflecting his interests.

If he loves photography, for instance, perhaps a few old cameras can be displayed. Is he a movie buff? His favourite film posters can be stylishly updated with custom framing. These items all add personality to the space and create a warm and inviting spot just for Dad.

Be sure to include things like soft cushions, throws and a cosy rug as well as a footstool to make relaxation the priority in the space. Include some low-level lighting and your man cave is complete!
