Expert Bedroom Styling Tips

We recently became friends with sister duo, Molly and Harriet at Secret Linen Store. They know everything there is to know about making your bed beautiful. We’ve asked them to share their secrets for choosing beautiful bed linen, how to style your bed and the importance of adding those oh so important finishing touches for three of our favourite bedroom styles.

Statement Walls

“We love to be bold and brave when it comes to our bedrooms… colour and pattern are what we do best. If you tend to play it safe with your décor choices, then make your bedroom the space where you mix things up. It’s the only place in your home that’s for your eyes only, so pick a pattern and splash some colour on the walls.”

When you design your bedroom around a statement wall, you need to make sure that you dress your bed wisely. You want the rest of your room to complement it, rather than clash.

For patterned walls, choose a plain bed linen. Mixing patterns is a tricky business, and getting it just right can be difficult. A bed linen with one solid colour will make sure your walls are the focus of the room.

For your bed linen choose a complementary colour. Our Washed Cotton Percale Teal looks fab against this palm print wallpaper. The Alto bedstead and Bevel bedside add some much-needed neutral tones to the bedroom, which make the teal bed linen even more vibrant.

Coastal Cool Bedroom

We do love a trip to the seaside. Coastal themed bedrooms are still as popular as ever. Their timeless style mixed with the soothing, calming colours are just what you want before heading to bed.

Nothing shouts seaside chic more than white washed furnishings. The Kemble range from Oak Furniture Land is our first choice for getting this look at home.

We always style our coastal bedrooms with lots of light layers and mix together different textures. Our Coastal Stripe bed linen is the natural choice for your bed. The navy creates that traditional nautical colour palette, or choose the charcoal stripe for a touch of modern monochrome. This linen has the softest, laundered finish so feels like a dream to slide into every night (even with sandy toes).

Top your bed with plenty of light cotton throws and comfy cushions. Our Waffle White and Waffle Charcoal throws are the perfect pair for this bedroom. Pop wicker, wooden and rope accessories around the rest of the room, to tie it together.

Bright Modern Bedroom

If you’re lucky enough to have a home filled with big bedrooms, high ceilings and lots of windows (we’re only a little bit jealous!) then take advantage by creating a lovely modern bedroom. We always get asked about how to make a small bedroom feel bigger, and we recommend white walls, light linen and clever storage. But when size doesn’t matter, your bedroom can have more beautiful furniture pieces, use darker colours and large statement accessories.

We believe all bedrooms should feel cosy, which is harder to achieve in a big, bright bedroom. How you choose to make your bed can help create a bedroom that feels modern, stylish and snug. We love using our Relaxed Denim in Graphite Grey or Washed Cotton Percale Charcoal to keep a bedroom feeling modern but cosy.

Bedspreads are also a great way to add comfort and style to a big bedroom. Our Herringbone Bedspread is a lovely dark shade of midnight blue, with a modern Herringbone design. We’ve woven it with a natural warp so it complements the natural oak in the Galway Collection from Oak Furniture Land.

The beauty of your bedroom is that it’s yours. If you invest in a quality bed and furniture like the beautiful pieces from Oak Furniture Land, you can adapt your bedroom to any style. The bed linen you choose, and the way you style it can complete your bedroom, and change the way it looks in an instant. Bed linen is an easy and cost-effective way to give your bedroom a fresh lease of life.

We love to chit chat about thread counts, colour, finishes and design, so if you ever need a helping hand we’re here to help.
