2018 marked the Ideal Home Shows 110th year anniversary, making it the longest-running exhibition in history. And as always, it certainly didn’t disappoint. I was lucky to be invited along with Oak Furniture Land and be inspired by their beautiful pieces in the Good Homes roomsets and take away ideas for my home.
This year, the roomsets were designed by the talented Kate Mcphee and Jess Taverner. Featuring furniture and accessories from companies such as Tesco, BHS, Crown and of course Oak Furniture Land. With six, beautiful roomsets right by the entrance to the show, we’re spoilt for choice where to start.
With pink still being a solid trend for 2018, this elegant blush and gold dining space pulled you in. The glass top table from Oak Furniture Land was styled perfectly with the blush pink chairs from Calligaris and the striking black candles while having some botanical blossom above the table made for a new and refreshing change. With black herringbone marble flooring (which I didn’t know even was a thing!) this room was a real showstopper.
Moving around to the dramatic kitchen, this room embraced the dark side. Black is back in the home this year and putting together this bold kitchen with mixed metallic was something not to miss. Both functional and family friendly, this room had me swooning. Bringing in mixed metallic is a great way to make any room feel more relaxed and can add colour to a neutral pallet.
From dramatic to wellness, this very Scandi inspired bathroom was a little bit of luxury. With a built-in Sauna, waterproof wallpaper and a bath you wouldn’t ever want to leave, this room ticked all the boxes for total relaxation. Adding a little flash of colour with the Oak Furniture Land Jasmine footstool in Plum made this set standout.
Onto the bold and bright Media Room. A place for all the family to curl up and watch films at the weekend, which is fun yet functional. Keeping the furniture grey with Oak Furniture Land’s Morgan Storage Footstool, complimented the bold flooring and rugs in the room. With the clever pegboard adding organisation and style to the space.
The last two rooms were probably the highlights for me. Firstly, the family living room. The neutral colour pallette incorporated a mix of peaches, pinks and yellows but Kate and Jess threw in a flash of orange with Oak Furniture Land’s stylish Orange Velvet Accent chair. The Gainsborough sofa could complement any style or colour throughout the years and really did fit in perfectly with the roomset. With elements of Terrazzo pattern (which is a great trend for 2018) and a colourful gallery wall, I wanted to change my living room when I saw this. A gallery wall is a great way to freshen up a room, without breaking the bank. When you get bored of prints, just swap them around for something new and é voilà, an instant makeover!
Finally, the botanical bedroom. I really couldn’t get enough of this roomset, as all the smaller details really brought this room together. The mix of cool blues, sage greens and a bright pop of mustard made it feel like spring. The Double Shutter Wardrobe gave the room a rustic feel and elements such as the Terrazzo pendants as sidelights gave it a bright and airy vibe. Including two of the Jasmine footstools in Cosmo Jade and Cosmo Duck Egg that complement the sage green walls and Ombré effect radiator. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a beautifully painted radiator before! It’s a great way of adding something quirky to your home. This bedroom really did create a juxtaposition of cosiness and freshness throughout.
Towards the back of the show, there were some more gorgeous Good Home roomsets, including these industrial style kitchen and bathroom. Enough to make any lover of industrial interiors swoon! Absolute monochrome tile goals throughout.
The Ideal Home Show is a great day out not only to be inspired by the beautiful roomsets and show homes but also to indulge in great food, have a look around all the gadgets and beauty sections. Olympia is a beautiful home itself for the show. At the end of the day, I would thoroughly recommend going to the top floor, just to appreciate the beautiful architecture and the hustle and bustle of people exploring the show.
