Are you feeling the autumnal vibes yet? I know, I know, with the sun still frequently out and the temperatures seemingly too high for the time of the year, Autumn and Winter still seem strangely far away. But they will be arriving, no doubt about that. And with that the desire to cosy up at home and spend time drinking tea by candle light. So it’s time to look at our homes and how to make them warm, cosy and inviting.
Interiors and fashion are quite closely connected and you might even recall my post regarding this subject here. One of the big trends for this Winter is faux (fake) fur and this coat is THE hit and has already sold out way before the temperatures have dropped to a level where anybody could contemplate actually wearing it. Sumptuous, soft, warm and luxurious, fake fur is the perfect accessory for the cold season.
Now you might have reservations about how faux fur would fit into your home, after all it can look like something that would only work in grand and elegant interiors (no, my home is neither grand nor particularly elegant) and might not be suited to “normal” homes. So, I thought I’d put together some fab examples about how it can be incorporated into any interior. Floral, bohemian and light…
… works as well as feminine and pink. A large throw on a bamboo sofa or a small cover on a stool. Either will bring wintery cosiness to your home. These combinations also show that your home doesn’t have to already be traditionally warm and plush, but that adding faux fur will add this feel and it can be just as easily be removed again next Spring.
It also works in every room. A big throw on the bed will keep you warm (though it might not help you getting out of bed in the morning) and add a big splash of glamour to your bedroom. You might have want to change the summery and colourful bedlinen to something a little more restraint and neutral to achieve the glamorous look, but that is optional.
Even if your home is on the cool and minimalist side, a simple (again, faux) sheepskin rug on a chair will warm it up without cramping your style. The “secret” is to stick with the colour scheme and apply one simple fur accessory instead of too many layers.
The dining room is another great place to add some furry cosiness. Single rugs on chairs will make your guests feel really welcome and will look amazing in a rustic setting as well as a more elegant one. Just like any other seat cushion, they’re easily changeable according to season and add the finishing touch to a room.
So, I hope I’ve managed to convince you to add some faux fur to your home this Autumn and Winter. All there’s left to wait for now is some cold and grey weather that will make you want to snuggle up at home.
